Wow wow wow wow and WOW. In the constant quest to support great live music, I went to see Yolanda Charles MBE, and her band “Project pH Band.”
Now I am ashamed to say that I’m a late comer to this party. No, it’s not that I’ve never seen Yolanda tearing up a stage playing with other bands, with her extraordinary bassist skills, always sitting in the right place in a track, making the funk and groove as dirty as possible, just how I like it, but I’ve never seen her with her own band, which is an entirely different experience.

It is interesting to the see the difference in feel with tracks written by a bassists, oh the baqselines and groove were ablaze, even in the ballads.
Their musicianship above all, is exemplary. The eclectic mix of funk, jazz, rock, is exactly as Yolanda described it, fusion, and for you music aficionados, it is reminiscent of Kings like Herbie Hancock, Jeff Lorber and dare i say, Earth Wind and Fire. Add to this the silky smooth cohesive vocals of Haydn Bardoe and Bex Gold (who is of fine vocal pedigree) set the band apart.
Though this was their last live gig of the year, get ready for them next year, with not only more gigs, but new music.
Wherever you see the name Yolanda Charles and Project pH Band, don’t hesitate, just buy the ticket, you will not be disappointed.
