The celebration was all about the wonderful
Carol Patricia Straker, and her recently awarded MBE.
Though her frame is delicate and slight, and demeanor extremely humble, unassuming and understated, don’t be deceived, the woman and her achievements behind the name, are gargantuan.
Her training includes Legat Russian ballet,
Nanette Bearden contemporary dance theatre,
Urdang, before it was in Covent Garden
Dance theatre of Harlem
Alvin Ailee
Martha Graham Dance Ensemble to name but a few, as well as being a member of UNESCO Council of International Dance.
With all of that top quality training, it not only provided her with an illustrious career, but it gave her the opportunity to start the Carol Straker foundation, enabling her to pass on all of those skills to future generations. She has worked hard to make classical dance more inclusive, by providing accessible classes for children and opening her own dance company, which sought to give opportunities to dancers from minority backgrounds.
Carol Straker came from fine pedigree. Daughter of Ralph Straker racial equality campaigner and activist. She was nurtured in an environment which highlighted the importance of serving the community.
Her family are wonderfully supportive, her sisters Jean Straker and her daughters. Some of the great and the good were there to celebrate her, Judith Jacob Mark Elie Kelvin O’Mard Danny John-Jules Dollie Henry Mbe It was a delight to witness her receiving her flowers, and in fact more than flowers, national recognition for her efforts.
